Although Defiant sired two litters before he died, I had imported Finlandia in the hope of them together producing a Sanft litter. Although Defiant remained healthy, Finlandia's health fell short of my expectations, and I had her speyed.
Fortunately at five years old, some of Defiant's semen had been stored over liquid nitrogen. I understand this is the only sperm stored from a bloodhound who was free of the Dumfriesshire Foxhound outcross. By the end of the 1990s, I had given up hope of finding a bitch which did not include this outcross, but had hoped that an overseas breeder would produce a litter that would contribute to the British bloodhound gene pool, by me importing a puppy sired by Defiant using artificial insemination. Alas I am still waiting.
Meanwhile In 2011, I imported Emerald, and following transcervical insemination of Defiant's frozen semen, this proved to be a success in March 2015.
